Sarah, a 7-year-old Shih Tzu-poodle mix, voted “Dog of the Year”

Youngtown, Ariz. (March 12, 2019) – LifeStream Complete Senior Living (LifeStream), a faith-based, nonprofit organization offering a complete spectrum of accommodations and services for the senior adult community, hosted its inaugural Dog Parade at its LifeStream at Youngtown community on Friday, March 8, 2019. A dozen Residents gathered with their dogs to show off their furry companions.

“Pets are an important part of our communities at LifeStream,” said Donna Taylor, Chief Operating Officer at LifeStream. “We’re pleased to offer our independent living Residents the option of having pets in their homes and celebrate their special bonds with the inaugural dog parade.”

LifeStream Residents and fellow community members who watched the parade voted by ballot to select the “Dog of the Year.” Sarah, a 7-year-old Shih Tzu-poodle mix owned by LifeStream Resident Libby Parrish, was the winner of the inaugural title.

Studies show that owning a pet can be beneficial for people of all ages, especially seniors. Owning a pet can help keep seniors active by getting them out of their homes to walk the dog, as well as help provide opportunities to socialize with other pet owners in their community. Pets can also contribute to a senior’s mental health by offering companionship and being a resource to relieve stress and anxiety.

LifeStream at Youngtown, LifeStream at Thunderbird and LifeStream at Northeast Phoenix’s communities are pet-friendly for Residents in independent living. LifeStream also has community pet turtles and birds at a couple of their locations for Residents to interact with.
