Lead Chaplain Role Filled by Educator-Turned-Pastor

Youngtown, AZ (June 2, 2019) – LifeStream Complete Senior Living (LifeStream), a faith-based, nonprofit organization offering a complete spectrum of accommodations and services for the senior adult community, has promoted Chaplain Chuck Morrison to Executive Director of Pastoral Care. He will serve in a leadership role for all the chaplains across the four communities of LifeStream, providing support and strategic direction.

Executive Director of Pastoral Care, Chuck Morrison

Dr. Chuck Morrison holds a Doctor of Education in secondary education and choral music education from ASU, which led to a career in Christian Leadership and Choral Music education, notably as a tenured professor at Grand Canyon University and as a teacher in the Cartwright School District. Following retirement, he turned to work as a chaplain, highlighting the opportunity for seniors to enjoy fulfilling employment during retirement years. After planting a church in Montana, Dr. Morrison returned to Arizona and began working as a chaplain at the LifeStream at Thunderbird location. There, he initiated a range of successful programs. His focus was on using music to better meet the needs of and minister to senior adults.

“Music is an incredible opportunity in the group settings of LifeStream at Thunderbird,” explained Dr. Morrison. “It’s amazing to see the impact music has on those who might not seem as involved in group settings, or senior adults experiencing early stages of dementia. Simply by singing, playing an instrument or clapping along, residents of LifeStream at Thunderbird get more involved and more uplifted.”

Dr. Morrison has also initiated a weekly music class, with a unique approach. Instead of keeping the music tucked away in the chapel or music room, he brought it to the lobby and moved the time closer to dinner. As a result, participation has been immense, with dozens of residents taking part each week. Some of those residents even went a step further and started piano lessons to get more involved in the musical opportunities at LifeStream.

“We are eager to see Chuck expand the opportunities for pastoral care across LifeStream,” said Donna Taylor, Chief Operating Officer at LifeStream. “Chuck has fantastic ideas to expand the ministry leadership at LifeStream, particularly regarding strategic partnerships to advance the worship opportunities for senior adults across the LifeStream communities.”

LifeStream communities have been serving families in Maricopa County for more than 40-years. With a faith-based environment that welcomes seniors of all faiths, the organization enriches relationships through compassionate care and community.
