How We Prepare for Emergencies

LifeStream Complete Senior Living has comprehensive emergency plans in place so that our Residents are protected and supported in times of crisis. Our skilled nursing communities are required by federal law to have evacuation plans in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. These disaster plans are tailored to account for the most likely disaster events given our geographic location and the types of residents we serve.

LifeStream also maintains strong relationship with community resources such as local Police and Fire, the Arizona Department of Health Services, Maricopa County Emergency Management and additional transportation resources.

Staff Education and Training

Our evacuation plans are reviewed periodically with both new and existing Associates who receive training and practice emergency procedures. Annual exercises are also held to test our coordination with community first responders and a coalition of other facilities who agree to assist one another in the event of a disaster.

Each community has an emergency plan for evacuation and for sheltering in place depending on the nature of the emergency. Plans will be different for weather events, power outages or other emergencies. Plans are in place to use existing staff and call in any necessary additional staff to carry out the evacuation plan during all shifts. Staff receive training upon hire and annually thereafter and are required to participate in regularly scheduled drills and exercises.

Resident Safety

Residents are educated through Resident Council about evacuation plans and also participated in semi-annual evacuation drills. During an actual evacuation, residents will receive a temporary name band and record of temporary shelter arrangements will be maintained. Medication and vital information regarding each Resident will accompany them to the shelter location.

Each Resident’s responsible party will be notified as timely as possible and gave the right to pick up their loved one if they can safely care for them and have a safe location to take them too.  LifeStream welcomes volunteers to  help in time of disaster if they meet the requirements of a volunteer and agree to participate in disaster training in advance.
